Directors winning most Fajr awards

Which directors attending this year’s Fajr festival won most awards previously?

The 38th edition of the Fajr Film Festival will be hosting many directors, among which are several veterans with a record number of awards from the festival’s previous events.

Three filmmakers among this year’s participants hold more than two dozen awards from previous editions of the festival in their resumes.

Ebrahim Hatamikia

Hatamikia will be competing at this year’s event with the premiere of his latest feature ‘Exit’. The filmmaker’s more than a dozen awards at the festival include six Best Film awards and five Best Director awards from the festival’s national and international competitions.

‘Damascus Time’, ‘In the Name of Father’, and ‘The Glass Agency’ are among his award-winning features.

Majid Majidi

Majidi will be marking his return to this year’s festival with his brand new flick ‘The Sun’. With more than half a dozen awards at previous editions of the Fajr, Majidi’s honors include four Best Director awards at the Fajr’s national competitions.

Films for which he received awards include ‘Children of Heaven’, ‘Rain’, and ‘The Willow Tree’.

Saeed Malekan

A veteran producer and makeup artist, Malekan will be entering this year’s festival with his first feature as a director with the premiere of his ‘Zero Day’. Having received ten awards at earlier editions of the Fajr, seven of those were Best Makeup Artist awards.

‘The Lost Strait’, ‘The Kingdom of Solomon the Prophet’, and ‘Life and a Day’ are among his hits.

The Fajr Film Festival coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr (Dawn) ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors along with up and coming filmmakers from Iran every year.

The 38th edition of the event is set to launch on February 1, 2020 and will run until February 11 in Tehran.

An international version of the event is also set to be held in April 2020.
